Avalon
Avalon, a beach community next door to Stone Harbor and situated on the northern end of the island extends nearly one mile farther out to sea than other resort towns. The picturesque seashore community is extremely proud of its special geographical location and claims it is "cooler by a mile." Boasting the quiet and quaintness of a small community, vacationers are beckoned to Avalon for two distinctly different seasons, the warmth of the summer sun and the relaxing quiet of the spring, fall and winter months. Avalons back bays attract the boating and fishing enthusiasts who flock to its shore to enjoy a myriad of water recreation sports. Water skiing, sailing, wind-surfing and power boating are available to visitors at hourly or daily rates. The Avalon Sport Fishing Center is headquarters for a large fleet of charter boats. The Bay Park Marina offers municipal ramps and slips, and charter, party and private boats leave daily for bay, ocean and canyon fishing. Outstanding restaurants located in the resort attracts visitors desiring to sample gourmet delights, seafood delicacies and specialty foods of all types. Quaint shopping within walking distance of many of the resorts restaurants and eateries provides a perfect evening out-on-the-town. For vacationers desiring to add more attractions to the "to do" list, Avalon is just 20 minutes away from the Wildwoods Boardwalk or 30 minutes away from Atlantic Citys gaming attractions. The "Victoriana" of Cape May, the history of Cold Spring Village and ecological attractions like the Wetlands Institute are all within a short drive from the resort where solitary dune walks and invigorating ocean breezes make Avalons seashore community a naturally perfect and tranquil setting for visitors who want to enjoy "getting away from it all."
